What Is Alarm Monitoring?

Alarm monitoring means that when your home alarm triggers, a signal is sent to a 24-hour monitoring centre. The centre contacts you and, if they cannot reach you or there is a confirmed threat, they dispatch a security response. Your alarm does not just make noise. It gets a real response.

Access Alarms connects home alarm systems to monitoring through the Pocket Secure platform. You also get the Pocket Secure app, which lets you arm, disarm and check your system from your phone.

How It Works Step by Step

Here is what happens when your monitored alarm triggers:

  • A sensor at your home detects movement or an open door and sends a signal to your alarm panel
  • The panel sends an alert through to the Pocket Secure monitoring centre
  • The monitoring centre attempts to contact you on your nominated numbers
  • If the alarm is confirmed or you cannot be reached, a response is sent to your property
  • You receive a notification on your phone through the Pocket Secure app throughout the process

The whole sequence happens fast. Response decisions are made in minutes, not hours.

The Pocket Secure App

The Pocket Secure app connects directly to your alarm system. From the app you can:

  • Arm and disarm your alarm remotely
  • See whether the system is armed or not
  • Check a log of recent events
  • Receive push notifications for alarms, alerts and system activity

The app works on iOS and Android. It is one of the practical reasons homeowners choose monitored systems over unmonitored alarms.

What Monitoring Costs

Setting up monitoring requires a SafeDial communicator to be installed on your alarm panel. The installation cost is $295. Ongoing monitoring is charged at $135 per quarter.

These prices cover 24-hour monitoring and access to the Pocket Secure app. Optional printed event reports are available for an additional $1.50 per week.

Do You Need a New Alarm to Get Monitoring?

Not always. If you already have a compatible alarm system, we may be able to add monitoring without replacing your panel. We install the SafeDial communicator onto the existing system and connect it to Pocket Secure.

If your current alarm is old or incompatible, we can upgrade it at the same time. Ask us when you get in touch and we will check what you have.

Why Monitoring Matters for Homes

An unmonitored alarm relies on a neighbour hearing the siren and calling the police. That does not always happen. A monitored system removes the guesswork. Someone is always watching, around the clock, including when you are asleep, at work or travelling.

This is especially important for holiday periods when properties are empty for days at a time.

You can read more about the full monitoring service on our alarm monitoring page. If you do not have an alarm system yet, see our alarm systems page. We also install CCTV cameras that can work alongside a monitored alarm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when my alarm goes off?
The monitoring centre receives the signal and follows your predetermined response plan. They call your emergency contacts first, then can dispatch a patrol or contact police if a break-in is confirmed.
How much does alarm monitoring cost?
The SafeDial unit installation is $295 (including part, call-out, labour and GST). Ongoing monitoring is $135 per quarter. Optional weekly printouts are $1.50 each week.
Do I need a phone line for monitoring?
No. The SafeDial unit uses a mobile signal to communicate with the monitoring centre, so no phone line is required. This is more reliable than traditional phone line connections.
