Access Control Systems

Access Control & Automation Systems

Access Control & Automation Systems

Access control and automation systems are ideal for when you have a premise where you need control who accesses what areas and when. We take a tailored approach to access control so that we can ensure the system is perfectly suited to you. The first step we take is to understand how you would like to use your system, or what credential you would prefer. After this, we will discuss the system itself and the capabilities you require of it. Finally we will analyse the doors that you need to control with your system, and what locks are best suited for each of them.

How we design your system

Designing a system that is best suited for you is a three-step process.

Credential Options

There are various types of credentials you can use for your system, and we will discuss what will suite your system best.

Using an Access Card

Access cards and fobs

Access cards and fobs will work in the exact same way, you simply tap them on a card reader to gain access. Fobs are generally going to last a long time before they need replacement, but they are twice the cost of a card.

Using a User Code

User Codes

Using a keypad is not quite as fast as using a card reader, but it does mean that you won’t physically need to carry anything with you. This is generally best suited to residential, small businesses, or when you provide a code to a certain group of the public (such as a parents code for a childcare centre, or a members code for a dance studio). Keypads can also be a standalone system, so if you have only one or two entry points, and have no need for monitoring access, this can be a cost-effective option.

Phone in Pocket

Bluetooth & NFC

Specific card-readers can also be programmed to accept a Bluetooth signal from a smart phone. This can be a great time-saver, as they can generally read the signal from a greater distance, such as if you walk up to the reader with your phone still in your pocket. This can be slightly more time consuming to set up each user, and this style of reader is currently more expensive.

Applications

In commercial premises, access control can be a great option for restricting access to high security areas or restricting access to general areas during designated times. You can also monitor when and where different staff members are accessing different areas. See below for examples of some of our most regular customers, and how they use their systems.

Apartment Complex

Body Corporates

Apartment complexes will generally have shared areas such as a lobby, carpark, mailroom, pool, gym, and entertainment areas. Having an access control system allows body corporates to enable access to shared areas to only it’s residents and restrict the times that certain areas can be accessed. They can also be connected to other devices, such as turning on the lights and air-conditioning when a resident enters the gym

Empty Childcare Centre

Childcare Centres

Childcare centres are required to restrict access to various areas of the building, and most opt for a user-code system. This enables them to have a different code for its parents and staff to use. Staff will have access to all areas, yet parents will only be able to access the foyer, and only during certain times. In the instance that a code gets shared to someone unauthorized, it can be changed immediately.

Large Factory

Factories

Factories often have different staff members accessing different areas throughout the day. This means that when someone from the warehouse has entered the building, you can program the system to have just the warehouse disarm, while the office area is still alarmed and vice versa. If each staff member has a different pin code or fob, you will be able to track the exact times each staff member is accessing different areas, which can be useful to keep track of work hours

Residential

As you are not likely to have a multitude of people accessing your home, an access control system can primarily be useful for removing the need for a key. If you are out of the house for a morning jog, you won’t need to carry anything with you to be able to access your house when you return. You can also keep track of who is at home and when, which can be helpful for keeping track of a big family.
